IPS Hinges

The COVID19 pandemic has brought the requirements for cleanliness and hygeine to the front of everyones minds, Health and Social Care Facilities are being subjected to increased cleaning and this inevitably highlights weaknesses in the design of exisiting products.

Our engineers have designed and refined our access panel hinge systems to provide easy access to services with low maintenance in mind.

With thousands of these now installed across the UK and Ireland, we wanted to let you know about them and how they can benefit your business.

These provide you with the opportunity to “upsell” your pre plumbed systems, increasing your profitability whilst providing peace of mind to your clients.

Fitting Instruction

Health & Safety

To comply with the guidance of Health Building Note (HBN) 00-10 Part C, para 2.90 states that access panels should be hinged wherever possible for ease of maintenance access.

In addition, to prevent injury and potential legal claims, access panels should not be lifted on and off through the use of lift on/off panel clips. The HSE Manual Handling Weight Lifting Limits state that a male cannot lift more than 5kg at shoulder height without assistance. We did some calculations and spoke to several of our customers to confirm that the majority of Access Panels are more than this 5kg limit.

By using our hinges, your client will not need to worry about any staff lifting outside of the HSE guidelines., therefore reducing the chance of injury to their staff or on-site contractors.

Strength & Reliability

All our IPS Hinges have been independently load tested to ensure they are fit for purpose. The H17 Hinge has been tested for overhead use with panels weighing up to 41kg’s and the H18 has been successfully tested with panel weights up to 260kg.

The H17 overhead panel system also comes with an automatic safety catch which prevents injury from the panel closing unexpectedly.

Ease of Installation

Comprehensive installation instructions and simple tool requirements mean these units, are very quick & easy to install. Eliminating the need for suction cups to remove panels and minimising the risk of damage to the panels once removed from the wall.

No visible fixings are left and with lateral and vertical adjustment of the hinges, perfect alignment of the panels is achieved every time.

Which hinge do I need?

For high level access panels, we recommend the H17 overhead panel hinge system. For larger panels or those with additional fittings mounted on them such as urinals, we would always advise using the H18 systems.

H17 IPS Hinge

We have 2 versions of our H17 Hinge, the H17P85 for vertical use and the H17P85NSB (No Stop Block) for horizontal use only as this comes without the safety catch.

  • Vertical & Horizontal Hinging
  • Panel weight up to 41kg
  • 85 Degree Opening
  • No visible fixings
  • Lateral & vertical adjustment
  • 14mm max overlap on the top of the panel

H18 IPS Hinge

H18P02 (Small IPS Hinge) – For small panels between 270mm & 445mm in height.

  • No limitations on top & bottom overlap
  • Panel can be swung completely out of the way and is not limited to 85 degrees.
